Ang Mo Kio 453 Wanton Noodle – A Value for Money Wanton Mee!
Indulge in a satisfying bowl of Wanton Mee at Ang Mo Kio 453 Wanton Noodle. Located in Mayflower Food Centre, this popular stall attracts a long queue of eager customers, a testament to its delicious offerings. Previously known as Chong Boon Food Centre, the stall relocated to its current spot at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, bringing along its well-kept family recipe for Wanton Mee.
The signature Wanton Mee comes in two sizes, priced at $3.00 and $4.00 respectively. Opt for the larger portion and enjoy a generous serving of noodles and additional wantons for just an extra dollar. The noodles are topped with succulent char siew, crispy fried lard, and chopped spring onions. For those who prefer a bit of heat, sliced green chillies are available to be added on the side. The noodles have a drier texture compared to others, but the fried lard provides enough oil to coat them adequately. Mixing in some of the soup from the bowl of wantons adds moisture and enhances the overall flavor.
The char siew at Ang Mo Kio 453 Wanton Noodle is tender and slightly charred, adding a hint of smokiness to its naturally sweet taste. It is roasted in-house daily, an impressive feat for a small stall. The combination of pork lard, char siew, green chillies, and spring onions creates a wonderful balance of flavors and textures.
The wantons, served in a peppery broth, are handmade daily by the stall owners. These delightful dumplings boast a perfect ratio of skin to meat filling. The wanton skin is silky and just the right thickness, while the minced pork and shrimp filling remain juicy and flavorful.
For a slightly pricier option, try the Prawn Dumpling Noodles. Priced at $3.50 and $4.50, this dish features plump dumplings filled generously with prawn. Unlike minced prawn commonly used in dumplings, these dumplings contain whole pieces of prawns and water chestnuts, providing a delicious and springy bite.
